Sea Moss Gel Recipe
Making Sea moss gel can be intimidating but don't fret, we have you covered.
1 oz dried sea moss
2 cups water (divided)
3 tbsp fresh lime juice
Optional: 1-3 tbsp agave or your preferred natural sweetener
Optional: Fresh or dried fruit of your choice
Instructions:
Step 1: Clean the Dry Sea Moss
Before soaking, rinse the dry sea moss with clean water, inspect the dried sea moss and remove any shells, sand, or other debris by hand.
Step 2: Rehydrate
Place the cleaned sea moss in a bowl and cover completely with cold water, allowing room for expansion. Soak overnight (8-12 hours), or until fully hydrated and soft.
Step 3: Rinse Again
Drain the soaking water and rinse the hydrated sea moss 1-2 additional times, gently massaging it with your hands. Continue rinsing until the water runs clear to remove any remaining salt or natural debris.
Step 4: Blend
Choose your preferred blending method (cold water or hot water).
Cold Water Method
Add to a blender:
Hydrated sea moss
1 cup cold water
3 tbsp lime juice
Blend on high for 1 minute until smooth.
If using, add your fruit and natural sweetener, then continue blending while slowly adding the remaining water until you reach your desired consistency.
Hot Water Method
Heat 1 cup of water to approximately 150°F (65°C). Do not boil.
Add to a blender:
Hydrated sea moss
1 cup hot water
3 tbsp lime juice
Blend on high for 1 minute until smooth.
If using, add your fruit and natural sweetener, then slowly add the remaining water (hot or room temperature) until you reach your desired consistency.
Step 5: Chill
Transfer the gel to a clean glass jar or airtight container and refrigerate.
Note: Sea moss gel naturally thickens as it cools.
Consistency Tip
Before refrigerating the entire batch, place a small spoonful of the gel in the freezer for 1-2 minutes. This gives you a quick preview of what the refrigerated consistency will be. If needed, blend in a little more water before storing.
Storage
Store refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 2-4 weeks.
